Woman and Society Center

The Research, Policy and Advocacy Centre “Woman and Society” from Sarajevo is an independent, feminist, non-governmental and non-profit organisation operating at the level of the State of BiH. The primary goal of the Centre is promotion of women's rights at the national, regional, and global level, and advocacy for gender-sensitive democratisation of the BiH society.

Mission
• Advocacy for social changes of crucial interest for improvement of the position of women 
• Making women’s initiatives more visible both locally and globally
• Making sure that the authentic voice of women of Bosnia and Herzegovina is heard as a part of the global discourse on women’s human rights
• Creation of alliances and partnerships with progressive movements and civil-society organizations that have the promotion of  human rights in their mission.

Scope of Work
Among other things, the Centre “Woman and Society” works on the following:
• Develops a methodology for gender-related social researches and implements them 
• Monitors the situation related to equality of women and men in Bosnia and Herzegovina
• Observers the gender dimension of institutional reforms in Bosnia and Herzegovina, especially concerning legislation
• The Centre organises and implements lobbying and advocacy for  gender equality in the B&H society, as well as campaigns for social changes necessary for a gender-sensitive democracy
• The Centre organizes forums, conferences, public speeches, debates and round tables on urgent issues important for women
• Informs the public on all key problems related to the position of women in BiH through electronic and printed media

The Centre “Woman and Society” in international networks:
• The Centre is a member and one of the founders of the International Gender Policy Network (IGPN), which gathers similar organisations in post-socialist countries of Central, Eastern and South-Eastern Europe, the Caucasus and Central Asia,
• The Centre is the institutional partner of the Network of Women’s Programmes of the Open Society Institute (OSI NWP) from New York,
• The Centre is a member of the Association for Women’s Rights in Development (AWID),
• The Centre is a member of the Human Rights House Network.
